What does Diversity and Inclusion mean to us? By the D&I Team

At Alchemmy we create long lasting positive change with our clients by implementing the ideas of those who matter the most – the people. What kind of ‘human consultancy’ would we be if we did not practice what we preach? We apply the same principle to our own growth strategy and ensure our people are at the heart of everything we do. We can now proudly say that this is truer now than it ever has been before, thanks to the grass-root creation of our D&I Team in 2020.

Unsurprisingly, the events of 2020 caused a stir amongst hundreds of people, but for a few individual Alchemmists it provoked them to take action. Following the incidents of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement, these Alchemmists banded together – and voila! The Alchemmy D&I Team was born. Already making waves within Alchemmy, they’re just getting started on what they can achieve.

Our current D&I team comprises four Senior Consultants who keep Diversity and Inclusion practices central to Alchemmy. Their main focus at the moment include:

Policies – Working with the Head of People of and Talent to ensure our policies support all our current and future people

Events – We invite Alchemmists to let us know the events that are important to them; our collaborative social calendar reflects our diversity and celebrates our varied heritage (not to mention the food is always a hit!)

Feedback – We host regular sessions to encourage Alchemmists to share their experiences, ask ‘difficult’ questions, and to hold the D&I Team accountable to make sure that our approach evolves at pace with society

Reverse mentoring – You don’t know what you don’t know…and as you become more senior, sometimes it can feel harder to admit that. We recognise the value of different perspectives and encourage this to be celebrated, by pairing senior members of staff with more junior members we create an atmosphere of collaboration and inclusivity

Our D&I team was instigated by a small team of Alchemmists who wanted to do more; to safeguard our natural inclusivity as we expand and ensure we foster an environment where everyone can be their true selves every day. D&I at Alchemmy covers all protected characteristics but also diversity of thought, personality, and experience. We welcome authenticity and do all that we can to maintain it.
